GRASSROOTS: Mubarak Ganiyu And Imoleayo Afolabi Qualifies For VEMP Tennis Championship’s Main Draw

Representative of Oyo State at the ongoing Vemp Tennis Senior National Championship in Abuja proved their mettle today despite losing in male and female category of the competition.

Actions continues early hours of today at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja with brilliant performance from the Team Oyo contingent.

In the male category, Isiaka Toriola defeated Ibrahim Amin from Abuja 6-0 6-0, before he later lost to Sani Yaya from Abuja 6-1.

Mubarak Ganiyu defeated Olowogbile Elisha from Lagos 0-6 6-2 10-2 which made him progressed to the next round where he defeated Peter Egena from Benue 1-6 6-3 10-8 and then qualified to the main draw of competition.

Also in female category, Imoleayo Afolabi qualified for the main draw by beating Omotayo Jatt from Lagos 4-6 6-4 10-6, Deborah Abiodun lost to Salami Mariam from Abuja 4-6 2-6 in the women’s final qualifier, while Kaosarat Adegboyega also lost in the final qualifying round to Mary Udofa from Kogi 6-3 6-2.

The Assistance Coach, Gazah Olaitan gave kudos the players for their excellent performances and urged those not to relent in their quest for success.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of Oyo State Tennis Association, Dr. Mogaji Akin Fagbemi who is with the players in Abuja noted that they will perform better and get to the final stage in the coming event.

Imoleayo Afolabi and Mubarak Ganiyu has been qualifed to the main draw of the Vemp Senior National Championship which will kick off tomorrow and after the Vemp Senior National Championship, the next is Davnoch Senior National Championship.
