A Non-Governmental Organization known as Adamolekun Foundation, has organized a football competition among secondary schools in Ekiti State, in its bid to engage the youth in a positive way instead of taking to various vices such as drug abuse which is common among the young adults in Nigeria today,
The Football Competition which was specifically organized among secondary schools in Gbonyin Local Government Area of Ekiti State kicked off on Saturday, May 6th, 2023 at the Aisegba community Grammar school, Aisegba Ekiti.
The competition tagged “playing for a drug free society” is aimed at creating awareness against drug abuse and illicit drugs in the society.
In the kick-off game between Aisegba comprehensive high school Aisegba Ekiti and Ilumoba Gramar School ended 3-0 in favour of Ilumoba team.
It was display of football prowess as both teams tried to outclass each other, but the god of football favoured Ilumoba Gramar school at the end of the regulation time.
Also in the second game, Aisegba High School defeated Ijanmodu Comprehensive High School by 3-0.
On Saturday, May 13, 2023, Ojugbaye Comprehensive High School Imesi Ekiti will trade tackle with Methodist High School Egbe while Ileowuro Comprehensive High School Agbado Ekiti will slug it out against Ode High School Ode Ekiti.
The founder of the Foundation, Engr. Kayode Adamolekun who was represented by the Chairman Inter School Competition, Adebayo Adeyemi and an official of the Foundation, Ojo Oluwasegun noted that the competition is aimed at creating an avenue to take the war against drug to all across board, as football universally has been one of the best medium to send message to mass audience.
Adamolekun noted that the sensitization football tournament became necessary due the issue of Substance Abuse among teenagers and young adults, stressing that the game will create avenue to discuss with youths on the of danger of drug abuse as well as create an enabling environment for rehabilitation.
