MOTIVATION CORNER with The Pain Doctor

THIS SHOULD BE YOUR GREATEST CONCERN

One of the greatest lessons I’ve learnt in life is this; what goes on in your mind is far more crucial than what goes on in the world. That’s why Proverbs says, “guard your heart with all due diligence because out of it comes the issues of life.”

But isn’t intriguing to know that amidst the issues we experience in life, the grandest of issues is what lies within us. Do you doubt this? Alright, let’s experiment. Supposing you get a call from someone in your neighbourhood who tells you that there’s a riot in your area with heavy bloodshed on your street.

What happens? Of course, you’ll instantly begin to pant and start trying to call your family, loved ones and neighbours to ensure they are fine. Then your next line of action would be to think of a way to escape. But just then, imagine that the same person calls again to calm you, laughing and saying he was only joking.

You’ll be mad at him for such an expensive joke. Then, your mind will suddenly be calm. But how come your mind was gullible to believe it? Simple! The mind is so naive that it believes whatever (true or false) you tell it. Yet, it has the power to mess with you anyhow.

In a nutshell, reality isn’t what happens in the world but what happens in your mind. That’s why you are often scared when you watch horror movies or become sad when you watch touching scenes on TV despite knowing it’s a staged play. Yes, your mind is that silly.

What’s my point? A lot is depressing people right now such as fuel subsidy, inflation, poor electricity, traffic, and the like. So, you have to be careful how you convey these issues to your mind. Ask me how!

The same way a doctor will break the news to a mother who has just lost her only begotten child. No doubt, he will be calm and subtle. Do the same when breaking stressful news to yourself because your mind can overreact.

Always remember, the mind is the boss. So, stop trying to calm the storms of your life. Calm your mind and the storm will pass.
