Starting from Monday next week, all members of Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has been instructed to withdraw their services from Tincan Island Port, Apapa.
President-General of MWUN, Comrade (Prince) Adewale Adeyanju made this assertion while speaking to journalists at breakfast meeting organized by Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN) at Rockview Hotel, Lagos.
According to him, “all MWUN members, especially the five stars logistics have been instructed to withdraw their services just to make a statement that all is not well in the port”

Comrade Adeyanju who also doubles as the Vice President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) also decried the state of the road leading to the port said “Look at the road leading to port in Lagos which has been taken over by various artisans plying their trades there, some even live there permanently”,
He however advised the authorities to shift attention to other ports in the country.
“If we concentrate on Lagos ports alone, what then happens to other ports such as Warri, Onne and others” he queried.
The event witnessed high and mighty in the maritime industry such as Hon. Olubumi Olumekun, President of Barge Operators of Nigeria (BOAN), Barrister Temisan Omatseye, former Director-General of Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Mr. Ayo Duroaiye, Director at the Nigerian Ports Authority (PA)
Dignitaries present at the event includes Rt. Honourable Emmanuel Jime, Executive Secretary Nigerian Shippers’ Council, Chief Eugene Nweke, Chief Isaac Jolapamo, Mr. Rotimi Anifiwoshe, representatives from Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), Association of Maritime Truck Owners (AMATO) among others.
