The Customs Area Comptroller, Seme Area Command, Comptroller Dera Nnadi has declared realizing a total sum of over one billion naira as at the end of transaction year, 2023.
Comptroller Nnadi made this known in his welcome address while welcoming the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi on the occasion of the maiden visit of the CGC to Seme Area Command on Friday 21 July, 2023.
“The revenue target for the Command for the year 2023 is One Billion Nine Hundred and Sixty Million Naira. As at end of transactions yesterday 20 July 2023, the Command has collected One Billion Three Hundred and Twenty Million, Five Hundred and Eighty Two Thousand, Nine Hundred and Thirty Seven Naira Seventy Five Kobo (N1,320, 582,937.57).”
According to Nnamdi,”this represents sixty-seven percent (67 per cent) of our given target.”
“This is also very significant considering that the collection for the corresponding period in the year 2022 was Nine Hundred and Seventeen Million, Seven Hundred and Eighty Eight Naira Twenty Eight Kobo (N917,788, 329.285) and shows Sixty Nine per cent (69per cent ) leap in revenue in 2023.
“In the area of anti-smuggling operation, the Command made headlines with the seizure of fake six million US dollars equivalent to two billion seven hundred million (N2.7 B) Naira. This is in addition to other notable seizures recorded between January and June 2023 and listed below:
“Six Thousand Five Hundred and Sixty Nine (6,569) 50kg bags of rice equivalent to eleven trailer loads of foreign par boiled rice with Duty Paid Value of N215, 907, 171k.
“In the area of anti-smuggling operation, the Command made headlines with the seizure of fake six million US dollars equivalent to two billion seven hundred million (N2.7 B) Naira. This is in addition to other notable seizures recorded between January and June 2023.
“Six Thousand Five Hundred and Sixty Nine (6,569) 50kg bags of rice equivalent to eleven trailer loads of foreign par boiled rice with Duty Paid Value of N215,907, 171k. 12, 748 x 30 liters of Premium Motor Spirit equivalent to 382,440 liters or 12 petroleum tankers with Duty Paid Value of 680, 263, 271k. The duty paid value for items seized for the period January to June 2023 is N1, 015, 173, 587. 00” he concluded.
