Head of state of Niger Republic has announced the appointment of new military Governors for the 8 regions making up the country.
General Abdourahmane Tiani, who also declared himself as the new military leader on July 26, 2023 gave the names of the new appointees as
Brigade General Ibro Boulama for (Agadez) , Brigadier General Iro Oumarou (Dosso) Brigadier General Ibrahim Bagadoma (Diffa) and
Brigadier General Abdou Assouman Harouna (Niamey).
Others are Major Colonel Oumarou Tawayé (Tahoua), Inspector General of Police Issoufou Mamane (Maradi),
Lieutenant Colonel Maïna Boukar (Tillabery) and Colonel EF Labo Issoufou (Zinder).
You will recall that a coup d’état occurred in Niger on 26 July 2023, in which Niger’s presidential guard detained president Mohamed Bazoum, and presidential guard commander general Abdourahamane Tchiani proclaimed himself the leader of a new military junta.
This led the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) condemning the action of the military in Niger Republic.
ECOWAS condemns in the strongest terms the attempt to seize power by force and calls on the coup plotters to free the democratically- elected President of the Republic immediately and without any condition.
