COMTUA calls for an end of electronic call-up regime by TTPL

A call has gone out to all maritime stakeholders to urgently address the electronic call-up regime by the Truck Transit Park (TTP) Limited.

National President, Council of Maritime Transport Unions And Associations (COMTUA) Adeyinka Aroyewun who made the call in a statement issued to journalists on Saturday, September 2, 2023,
said the irregularities and inadequacies plaguing the operations of the Truck Transit Park Limited should be of a great concern to all maritime stakeholders.

According to him, “The electronic call-up regime, which was implemented with the aim of bringing order and efficiency to the movement of trucks within the transport system, has unfortunately failed to live up to its intended purpose”.

“COMTUA has consistently voiced its reservations regarding the functioning of the Truck Transit Park and the subsequent negative impact on the maritime transport industry. We have been met with opposition and skepticism from individuals and corporate organizations who initially defended the TTP.

“However, we are pleased to inform the general public that many of these individuals and corporate organizations have now come to realize the merit in our position. The irregularities and failures of the TTP have become increasingly evident, leading to disruptions, delays, and economic losses for all stakeholders involved.

“We firmly believe that the time has come for us to unite as stakeholders in the maritime transport industry and call for the abolition of the Truck Transit Park limited. The inefficiencies and shortcomings of the TTP not only hinder the growth and development of our industry but also affect the overall economic progress of our nation.

“We humbly request the support and cooperation of all members of the general public to join hands with the Council of Maritime Transport Unions And Associations in our endeavor to bring about positive change. By working together, we can collectively address the challenges posed by the TTP and strive towards a more efficient and effective transport system.

“We urge you to engage in constructive dialogue, raise awareness about the failures of the TTP, and actively participate in discussions and initiatives aimed at finding viable alternatives. Let us foster a culture of synergy and cooperation among stakeholders, including transport unions, associations, regulatory bodies, and government agencies, to ensure the smooth and seamless movement of goods across our transportation networks” he concluded.

The COMTUA National President however appealed to every citizen to lend their voice and support to the cause so as to make a difference and advocate for a transport system that truly serves the best interests of all stakeholders involved.
