The inefficiencies and shortcomings of the current electronic call-up system implemented by the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) are causing significant disruption and delays in the movement of goods and services. This not only hampers the productivity of businesses but also affects the overall economy.
This is the position of Adeyinka Aroyewun, National President, Council of Maritime Transport Unions and Associations (COMTUA) in a letter written to the Commissioner, Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, Mr. Seun Osiyemi.
“Despite the promises made by NPA to the users, it is evident that the system has failed to achieve its stated objectives almost three years of implementation.

The letter reads: “Users of the electronic call-up system were assured of prompt turnaround time, free flow of traffic, safety and security, extortion-free roads, and non-human interference. However, it is disheartening to note that these promises have not been fulfilled, leading to great frustration and inconvenience within the industry.
“It is imperative that swift action be taken to address these issues and provide a viable alternative to the current system.
“We kindly request the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation to proffer alternative solutions that would effectively address the challenges faced by the industry. It is crucial that these alternatives prioritize prompt turnaround time, ensure the free flow of traffic, enhance safety and security measures, eliminate extortion along the roads, and minimize human interference.
“Failure to address these concerns and provide a suitable alternative to the current system may lead to a likely crisis within the industry. The consequences of such a crisis would be detrimental not only to the businesses involved but also to the overall reputation and functioning of the transportation sector.
“We trust in the Ministry’s commitment to excellence and its ability to find practical and efficient solutions to complex challenges. We therefore urge you to take immediate action in assessing and implementing an alternative system that meets the expectations and demands of the industry.
