Manchester City has successfully secured the signature of promising Argentinian midfielder Claudio Echeverri from River Plate.

The 18-year-old sensation, who recently turned 18 on January 2, has inked a contract that extends until June 2028. However, he will continue representing River Plate before officially joining the Etihad Stadium in January of the upcoming year.

Echeverri, having already accumulated six appearances for the Buenos Aires giants, received his debut under the management of former City defender Martin Demichelis at El Monumental in June 2023. He marked this occasion with an assist in a convincing 3-1 victory over Instituto Cordoba.

The young talent further showcased his prowess on the global stage by captaining Argentina during the Under-17 World Cup in November and December. Notably, he netted a hat-trick in a spectacular 3-0 quarter-final triumph against Brazil. Despite a penalty shootout exit in the semi-finals against Germany, Echeverri was honored with the tournament’s third top scorer accolade, receiving the bronze ball.

Echeverri’s international journey includes 23 appearances and 13 goals for Argentina’s under-17s, coupled with valuable experience training with the senior national team.

In following the footsteps of 2022 World Cup winner Julian Alvarez, who made the move from River to City in 2022, Echeverri joins a prestigious line of Argentinian players associated with the Club.

Manchester City eagerly awaits Claudio’s arrival, extending their best wishes for his continued success during his remaining tenure with River Plate.
