Ademola Lookman’s clinical brace guided Nigeria to a decisive 2-0 victory over Cameroon, securing their spot in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) quarter-finals. Despite an early disallowed goal by Semi Ajayi, Nigeria maintained composure, capitalizing on a defensive lapse by Cameroon.

The first half saw both teams locked in a tactical battle, with a potential stalemate looming. However, Oumar Gonzalez’s mistake proved costly for the Indomitable Lions, as Victor Osimhen capitalized on the error, setting up Lookman for a crucial goal.

The Super Eagles dominated the second half, with Lookman narrowly missing a chance to double his tally. Cameroon struggled to mount a comeback, evident in Nouhou Tolo’s desperate attempt from distance.

In injury time, Lookman sealed the victory with a powerful volley from Calvin Bassey’s delivery. Nigeria, unbeaten in four and boasting three clean sheets in the AFCON finals, underlined their form under coach José Peseiro. They now gear up to face Angola in the quarter-finals.

Conversely, Cameroon faced disappointment, exiting the AFCON round of 16 for the second time in their last three finals appearances. The Super Eagles’ solid performance and Lookman’s stellar display showcased their determination to excel in the tournament.
