Frustrated by the lackluster performance of the Sunshine Stars Football Club of Akure, disgruntled supporters stormed the Office of the Ondo State Governor on Monday, demanding the immediate removal of the Team’s General Manager, Prince Tunde Ogunja.

Protesters brandished placards bearing messages such as “Ogunja Must Go SOS,” “Ogunja Hinders Football Progress in Ondo State,” “Ogunja: A Hindrance to Development,” and “Ogunja Prioritizes Money Over Work.”

Lucky Beniah, the leader of the protest, revealed that Sunshine Stars FC currently sits at the 13th spot on the 2023/24 NPFL table, attributing the decline to the General Manager’s alleged negligence.

Beniah accused Ogunja of not accompanying the team for away matches despite receiving full travel allowances. Even during home matches, Ogunja’s presence is sporadic.

Among the allegations are the “imposition of players on the coaching crew” and a “nonchalant attitude towards the team.”

Taju Eniolorunda, one of the protesters, expressed, “The General Manager has sown more division than unity within the team. To remedy the current situation, his departure is imperative.”

“The role of a General Manager is a pivotal one, unsuitable for an individual of his incompetence. We aspire for Sunshine Stars to reclaim its former glory days,” he emphasized.
