The highly anticipated boxing match between Nigerian female boxer Adijat Gbadamosi, also known as “Dija,” and her Ugandan counterpart Salimat Tibesigwa, scheduled for Saturday, February 17, 2024, was canceled.
In a statement signed by Adijat Gbadamosi’s personal public relations manager, Olusola Alabi, widely known as “Ijoba Sports,” Dija explained that the fight was canceled because her opponent, Salimat Tibesigwa, failed to appear.
“I would like to address my fans at home and abroad regarding this matter. I sincerely apologize for the cancellation of my fight. My opponent from Uganda failed to show up after I had prepared extensively for this match. However, I believe that every disappointment is a blessing. I won’t let this affect my ongoing training and preparation,” she disclosed.
Dija expressed gratitude to her promoter and manager for their efforts thus far and urged all her supporters not to waver in their support for her.
The Osun-born boxer, who hails from Ede Town in Osun State, revealed her plans to visit her state’s governor, Governor Ademola Nurudeen Adeleke, and the Timi of Ede Land, Oba Dr. Munirudeen Adesola Lawal, Laminisa 1, along with some sports stakeholders in the state.
Adijat Gbadamosi appreciated all sports journalists across Nigeria for their massive support and urged them not to relent in supporting her always.
Despite the cancellation of her fight against Salimat Tibesigwa due to her opponent’s failure to show up, Adijat Gbadamosi remains committed to her training and preparation for the next event.
