Nigeria’s under-18 women’s handball team and reigning African champions
has embarked on their journey to Uzbekistan to compete in the IHF Women’s Trophy Intercontinental Phase.

The IHF Women’s Trophy Intercontinental Phase is scheduled to commence on Wednesday, February 28, 2024 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

The Nigerian side has undergone rigorous training in preparation for the competition at the National Institute of Sports, located in the National Stadium, Surulere, for several weeks.

Representing the continent as African champions, Nigeria earned their spot after emerging victorious in the Africa Zone 3 tournament held in Ghana and the continental phase in Ivory Coast last year.

Coach Shittu Adewunmi Agboola has finalized the squad, selecting 14 players from the initial 18 invited to the training camp.

Among the selected players are three sets of siblings who have been consistent members of the national team: the Babatunde twins from Seasider Babes of Lagos, the Mohammed sisters representing Rima Queens of Sokoto, and the Samuel sisters, also from Rima Queens.

Additional players include Esther Matthew of Seasider Babes, Rahima Bello, and Amarachi Oparaugu, among others.

Nigeria finds themselves placed in Group A alongside Guadeloupe and New Caledonia, with their opening match scheduled against Guadeloupe on Wednesday this week.
