The World Athletics Council has chosen Beijing, China, as the host city for the 2027 World Athletics Championships.
The decision was finalized during the 234th World Athletics Council Meeting held in Glasgow, preceding the World Athletics Indoor Championships from March 1st to 3rd.

This announcement follows the withdrawal of Rome’s bid due to a lack of financial support from the government.
The 2027 World Athletics Championships will mark the return of the sport’s top athletes to Beijing, twelve years after the city’s successful hosting of the flagship event and almost two decades after the Beijing Olympic Games.
Additionally, China will host the upcoming World Athletics Indoor Championships in Nanjing next year.
