The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) Nigeria has participated at the validation Forum on Draft National Land Transportation Policy organized by the Federal Ministry of Transportation held at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja.
This was contained in a release signed by the Institute’s Publicity Committee Chairman, Mr. Bashir Ambi-Mohammed, FCILT .

Speaking at the Forum recently , President of Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport CILT-NG Barr. (Mrs) Mfon Usoro, FCILT, represented by Dr. Kayode Olagunju, FCILT, mni, commented on all the contents of the draft National Land Transport Policy. For instance, he recommended that ” It is more appropriate to use the National Population Commission Census Figures and Annual Growth rate, than World Bank Data for such an important document. ”
Olagunju, drew attention to the correct historical background of the policy stating that the document should indicate the period between 2011 and 2020 not 2014 as there was a review in 2017 which he was involved under the Chairmanship of the current CILT-NG President, Barr. Usoro, FCILT.
According to him, the report was presented to the Federal Executive Council (FEC) in 2019, but due to certain observations at the FEC, an amended version was however developed in 2020.
Olagunju opined that the addition of non adherence to operational schedules (delays) as one of the challenges and on 2.1.2 Policy Goal & Objectives, he stated that ” As a global best practice, for instance, as operational in the United Kingdom (UK) where he recommended that the body consider Delay Repay while encouraging compensation by rail operation for any delay suffered.
CILT – NG was given a prime of space at the function.
On the programme, only Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology NITT and CILT were scheduled to make the Critique of the Draft Policy based on the extensive submission made earlier by the Institute.
CILT however kick-started the technical session,while highlighting the observations made and submitted earlier and was considered technical and highly received by the audience.
The stakeholders ratified the documents with the belief that useful observations and comments will be incorporated.
It was a very successful prog. Well attended and good technical inputs.
In conclusion, members of the Institute like Moji Jimoh FCILT, Engr John Emmanuel FCILT, Adegbuwagun Adekunle and other Stakeholders at the forum were happy with the presentations observations and comments by the CILT.
The consultant, Prof Odewumi and Director, Dr Mrs Ilori were quite appreciative of the Institute’s contributions.
