By Ajibola Adedoye

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has commenced sensitization of officers and men of the Service on the benefits of accessing the National Health Insurance Scheme.

The sensitization program was flagged off in collaboration with the National Health Insurance Authority and Songhai Health Trust Ltd on Monday, May 20, 2024 at the NCS Headquarters in Abuja.

The Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, represented by Greg Itotoh, Deputy Comptroller-General of Customs in Charge of Human Resource Devlopment, stated that the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) is a means of providing officers high-quality healthcare service.

The CGC sketched out that the sensitisation is to educate officers on how best to determine greatest benefits from the administrations given by the Songhai Health Trust.

In his words; “This is a way of giving affordable and stress-free health care services to officers. It is an insurance program that NCS makes obligatory contributions.

“This is the reason why we need each officer to key into it and utilize the incentives provided by the government” he stated.

He expressed further that the group of therapeutic units of the NCS would go around distinctive zones, Commands and other Customs formations to sensitise officers on the scheme’s benefits.

In his comment, Abdulkadir Mohammed, the Comptroller of Customs (Pharmacy), who also doubles as NHIA’s Desk Officer, said it is a program presented by the government for the health care of citizens, and it is outlined to pull resources for appropriate health care delivery.

Dr Rotimi Anlemi, Deputy Chief Operations of Songhai Health Trust, in his submission, laid out how the scheme works and teach officers on the benefits of the scheme.
