The Nigeria Customs Service Ondo/Ekiti Area Command under the leadership of Comptroller Morenikeji Oluyemi Bewaji has engaged stakeholders from Ondo and Ekiti states at the Command’s headquarters in Akure for a sensitization on 90 days window for regularization of import duty on improperly imported vehicles.
During her opening speech on Friday 24 May 2024, the Customs Area Controller in said that the sensitization is anchored on the Comptroller-General of Customs’ policy thrust: consolidation, collaboration and innovation.
According to her, the occasion marks a significant road map to unity to engage in constructive dialogue, foster collaboration and strengthen partnership which will help in achieving individual roles of nation building.

She stated that in an effort to relieving the pains and sufferings of Nigerians who are caught in the web of wrongful or improperly importation of vehicles, Mr President Bola Ahmed Tinubu through the Comptroller-General of Customs Bashir Adewale Adeniyi has granted a 90 days window effective from 4 March 2024 to 5 July 2024 for victims to get their vehicles import duty regularized which is an opportunity for those who had their vehicles imported without duty payments or inappropriate duty payments.
The Customs Area Controller advised that intending buyers of vehicles should ensure due diligence by confirming the genuineness of documents to avoid suffering from a crime they did not directly commit, as ignorance is not an excuse in law.
Comptroller Bewaji however assured that Ondo/Ekiti Area Command shall continue to share the dynamics in government fiscal and trade policies as they affect businesses.
Also during the event, Balogun Musa, Assistant State Commander of Narcotics was given the privilege to sensitize stakeholders on the need for monitoring people especially youths to ensure they are not engaged into drug abuse likewise A.R Akinterinwa, Assistant Comptroller of Immigration talked about the “ills of smuggling of migrants”.
In attendance were officers of security agencies, members of car dealers association of Nigeria, traditional rulers and officers from MDAs, all from both Ondo and Ekiti states.
