As the world commemorate 2024 International Albinism Awareness Day, a call has gone to governments, transnational organisations, and civil society to join hands in addressing the remaining gaps and icing the full enjoyment of mortal rights by persons with albinism.
Bisi Bamishe, National President, Albinism Association of Nigeria made the call in the statement issued to Daily Insight Nigeria.
Bamishe said” We want to express our appreciation to Federal and state government as well as development mates, utmost especially Disability Rights Fund and Sightsavers, for their tremendous support to albinism community in Nigeria.

“There’s further work to be done, part of which is by spreading mindfulness about albinism, we can help to make the world a better place for those affected by this condition. We can help them to feel more supported and accepted, and we can help to raise mindfulness about the significance of diversity and addition.
June 13 every time has been set aside by the United Nations as a day to fete the struggles and triumphs of persons with albinism worldwide. In 2014, UN declared June 13 International Albinism Awareness Day because it was the date of the first UN resolution on albinism in 2013.
That resolution raised the alarm on attacks and demarcation against people with albinism. Since also, June 13 has been celebrated as a platform to not only farther rise alarm of those violations but to also raise a platform to celebrate people albinism worldwide.
