The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has debunked the exposure of sensitive data of Nigerian citizens as it concerns the Commission, amongst numerous other data-collecting agencies, as contended and reported.
This was contained in a statement issued and signed by Kayode Adegoke, NIMC’s Head of Corporate Communications Department on Saturday, June 22, 2024.
The NIMC assured the public that the data of Nigerians has not been compromised, and that it hadn’t authorised any website or organization to vend or misuse the National Identification Number (NIN), amongst all the individualities stated in the report.
The following websites: idfinder.com.ng; Verify. Ng/sign in, championtech.com.ng, trustyonline.com, and anyverify.com are data harvesters not authorised by NIMC to pierce or manage sensitive data.

NIMC prompted the public to disregard any claims or services these websites offer and shouldn’t give their data as they’re potentially fraudulent, and data handed by the public on similar websites are gathered and stored to make the data services they immorally give.
Accordingly, the public should know that the NIMC has taken robust measures to guard the nation’s database from cyber pitfalls, and that a secure, world- class, full- evidence database is in place. It adds that its structure meets the strict ISO 270012013 Information Security Management System Standard, with periodic recertification and strict compliance with the Nigerian Data Protection Law.
Likewise, NIMC advised Nigerians to avoid giving their data to unauthorised and phishing spots, pointing out that this poses the peril of data harvesting and comprises individual data. It reaffirmed its commitment to upholding ethical norms in data protection in line with civil government directives and data sequestration regulations. also, certified mates or merchandisers aren’t authorised to checkup or store NIN slips but to corroborate NINs through approved channels.
The NIMC bared that it’s presently working nearly with security operatives to seize these rudiments masquerading as online merchandisers, and they will be made to face the full wrath of the law.
It prompted the public to remain watchful against false information and calculate on vindicated sources for accurate updates.
The NIMC said that it remains married to furnishing secure and dependable identity operation and upholding the loftiest position of security for systems and databases, which are critical public means.
