The creation of Anioma State with Asaba as its capital, isn’t a tone seeking political ambition, it’s a vision for a brighter, more prosperous future for all of us.
Senator Ned Munir Nwoko representing Delta North Senatorial District in the Green Chamber of the National Assembly made this submission in an open letter to Anioma natives in general.
He said the demand for creation of Anioma State is incontestably the oldest agitation in the history of Nigeria which started in the 1950s by the people of Aboh and Asaba divisions in the Western indigenous House of Assembly. It’s a struggle that has gauged decades and one that’s near than ever to achieving it.
According to Senator Nwoko “The creation of Anioma State isn’t just a political thing; it’s a deeply collaborative charge that I’ve been committed to for numerous times.
“This agitation began long before I came a assemblyman, I’ve been laboriously involved in the prolonged agitation for Anioma State through colorful sweats and engagements. I vividly flash back the central part I played arranging pivotal meetings between the also President Olusegun Obasanjo and our reputed traditional autocrats led by the Asagba of Asaba, late Obi Professor Chike Edozien on two occasions between 1999 and 2003, during my term as member representing Aniocha/ Oshimili Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
“These major meetings were vital moments in our hunt for Anioma state, as were the conversations I eased with former President Umaru MusaYar’Adua.
“As your representative, it’s my solemn accreditation and avowed duty to reignite this trouble with renewed vigour. But more profoundly, I stand with you as someone who deeply understands the significance of this noble cause.
“This action isn’t about division; it’s about empowerment. We aren’t at war with any group. We aren’t fighting against the South or the Central regions. It goes far beyond verbal, artistic and sociological delectation. It’s a peace move of progress. A movement for sustainable development.
“During my campaign, I promised the kings and Izu Anioma that I would support this cause and also endorse for indigenous places for our traditional autocrats. I was tagged on this pledge, through the autonomous ballot of republic and I stand by my word.
“I recall with important pride that when one of my sons was born in 2001, I named him Anioma, a nationalistic symbolism of my ingrain love for Anioma nation. Now, further than ever, I ask for your unvarying support. Let us come together, united in purpose and spirit, to make Anioma State a reality. Together, we can achieve this major corner and pave a great dawn for all- the present and unborn generations.
“Let Anioma rise as our collaborative call. The renaissance of our common legacy. I stand by this pledge with the firmness of resoluteness and brightest of vision” he stressed.
