Gynaecologists and other medical experts have revealed the reason behind the adding number of Nigerians passing gravidity.
The experts revealed this at the 2024 Fertility Conference, held in Lagos on Saturday.
The periodic event, themed” Gravidity- Need for Knowledge and Early Intervention,” was organized by the Parah Family Foundation (PFF).

The supereminent speaker,Prof. Preye Fiebai, a specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology from the University of Port Harcourt, stressed ignorance and lack of mindfulness as major factors contributing to the rise in gravidity cases. He noted that numerous Nigerian men were ignorant that the capability to exclaim didn’t equate to being rich.
According to Prof. Fiebai, exploration indicates that 20- 45 of women in Nigeria are infertile, but frequently, the cause of gravidity in marriages isn’t the women. The exploration breakdown shows that 40 of gravidity cases are due to manly factors, 40 to womanish factors, 15 to combined manly and womanish factors, and 5 are unexplained.
Fiebai listed causes of gravidity in men, including erectile dysfunction, incompetence, dropped libido, psychogenic issues, endocrinopathies, age, and fat, among others. For women, he refocused to cervical factors, uterine factors, conditions of the fallopian tubes, and problems with ovulation.
Kehinde Habeeb Tijani, a Professor of Surgery from the University of Lagos, added factors similar as age, weight, stress, inordinate alcohol consumption, exposure to radiation, and constant exposure of the testicles to high temperatures as contributors to gravidity.
Kemi Ailoje, MD of Lifeline Fertility Clinic, andRev. Tony Akinyemi concurred with the other speakers and offered colorful remedies to overcome gravidity. They also advised women over the age of 54 to avoid aspiring for gestation due to the associated pitfalls.
In her welcome address, conference convener, Princess Dayo Odukoya described the gravidity rates and causes as” intimidating.” She emphasized the need for ongoing mindfulness to encourage couples passing gravidity to seek results beforehand in their marriages rather than delaying.
“The foundation’s primary ideal is to partake vital information, enlighten and give the applicable support system for families witnessing fertility challenges in order to annihilate ignorance, the deceived myths and social smirch associated with delayed fertility in our society.
“The choice of the theme for this time conference; Gravidity- requirements for Knowledge and early intervention; is to further reiterate the significance of continued mindfulness, and knowledge about the challenges of gravidity and more importantly, action to be taken as beforehand as possible if not, it may beget farther detainments especially in late marriage and aged women.
“The trip to Parenting is lonely and mustn’t be threaded alone. There’s need for a support system on this trip and that’s where Parah Family comes by.
” The rate of gravidity and the causes are intimidating similar that it requires a uninterrupted education that would enable couples witnessing the challenges to speak out on time and seek result beforehand in marriage rather than stay until latterly.”, she said
At the conclusion of the conference, the PFF offered two free IVF treatments and one free fertility disquisition to three sharing couples.
