In its drive towards ensuring the less privileged widows in the country have a new lease of life, Hope Soars Foundation for the Widows (HSFW), an Ibadan based non-profit organization has empowered about 25 members of Victorious Widows Care Association in Lagos.
The skill acquisition program took place at the Nigeria Correctional Service in Kirikiri-Apapa on Thursday, July 19, 2024.
In her opening remarks, Folashade Johnson, founder HSFW disclosed that a lot of widows scattered all round the country are struggling to make ends meet due to poverty or being neglected by those around them and the only way out of this for them is to self-reliant by learning vocational skills and earn legitimate money in the process.
According to her, “Most widows are having difficulties in taking care of their immediate family, such as paying school fees, medical bills, feeding, clothing and the rest. So, the only way we could help is to train them in various vocational skills and we are not just training them and leave them to go and struggle again on raising the needed fund to buy the materials needed to start, we are also giving them start-up kits so they can start production immediately and make their money”.
On the motive behind the program, Johnson said “most widows are deserted based on the situation they found themselves, so we decided to organize this training to enable them stand on their feet, take care of themselves and their immediate family instead of being a liability to others.
“Hope Soars Foundation for Widows is not-for-profit organization, we need support and donations to touch more lives as anonymous sponsored this outreach” Folashade Johnson reiterated.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Grace Mbamba, applauded Folashade Johnson and her group for organizing an extensive skill acquisition training for the widows.
In her words, “the skill acquisition program organized by HSFW is an awesome experience for the women, we are trained on how to make liquid soap, bleach, toilet wash, hair cream and so on. They also give the women start up kits so we can start production and sell to get money in return.
“With this type of training, any wise widow can leverage on this and become financially stable. So, we are so grateful to them for organizing such an eye-opening training for us”.
HSFW a not-for-profit organization that focuses on SDG 1-5 goals usually empower widows, revive their dampened spirits through faith and resilience, as well as stimulate the widows such that they have positive impact on their respective communities.
