The Earthshot Prize: UK spearheads environmental innnovation in Nigeria

The UK Government says it’s backing environmental innovation in Nigeria, through the prestigious,” The Earthshot Prize.”

Speaking at a event to host the Earthshot delegation in Abuja, the acting British High Commissioner, Gill Lever, said that the UK Government has been a long- standing partner in Nigeria on climate and environmental issues.

Lever said that the UK his proud to be part of efforts to support sustainable and transformative systems.

This includes the UK’s work in guarding the aboriginal goon species in Cross River State, as well as the Propcom programme which is boosting the climate adaptability of growers and reducing food instability.

Also, the United Kingdom Nigeria structure Advisory Facility( UKNIAF) is driving investment in clean off- grid energy systems for underserved communities.

Acting British High Commissioner, Gill Lever, said

“ The Earthshot Prize, commanded by Prince William and the Royal Foundation, stands as a lamp of stopgap and invention in our collaborative hunt to address the pressing environmental challenges of our time.

“ As we gather then tonight, we reaffirm our commitment to a sustainable future, echoing the Prize’s charge to incentivise change and revitalize our earth. ”

Speaking at the event, CEO of The Earthshot Prize, Hannah Jones, said

“ There are thousands of game changers and entrepreneurs committing their lives to working our generations ’ biggest challenges and the occasion to drive mindfulness and support of their work is critical to the charge of The Earthshot Prize.

“ We’re thankful for the occasion to come together with our mates and sympathizers to shine a light on the numerous results across Africa, to pull hundreds of others into focus across the mainland, and to inspire a new generation of originators. ”

The event also witnessed a donation from Reeddi, a 2021 Finalist of the Earthshot Prize furnishing clean energy at an affordable price to individualities and businesses.

Author and CEO of Reeddi, Olugbenga Olubanjo said

“ Reeddi is thrilled to have entered the credibility and support brought by the Earthshot Prize. This recognition has enabled us to gauge our results to indeed more communities and regions where energy access is a significant challenge.

The event which held in cooperation with commanding African entertainment company, MultiChoice Group, was also an occasion to celebrate the individualities and associations devoted to environmental stewardship.
