Controller Paul Bamishaye, Area Comptroller of Western Marine Command has solicited the support of the Nigerian Navy in mitigating activities of smugglers on waterways across Lagos State.
Bamishaye made the call when he paid a courtesy visit to the Western Naval Command in Lagos.
In his address to journalists, the CAC Western Marine Command said “We are here for consolidation on the existing cordial relation and the synergy between the Nigeria Customs Service and the Nigerian Navy, and just like the FOC rightly said, we will do more of that collaboration and interaction in order to achieve common goal.

According to him: “These people as we are arresting, as we are dealing with them, they are devising new technology for their activities, but we are unrelenting and even with the promise from the FOC, we know we are good to go” he assured.
On his part, Real Admiral Mustapha Hassan, the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) Western Naval Command, while acknowledging the role of Customs in the development of the blue economy of Nigeria opined that “When the Marine Command tops its job, the sky is the limit. So based on the bid to collaborate and enhance operations in the water, we’ve decided to come up with an MoU whereby we can maybe jointly patrol, because we have more of the seagoing platforms and the smuggling mainly happens at sea, so we will collaborate and make sure we bring smuggling to an end in Lagos” he promised.
This collaboration demonstrates the two agencies commitment to combating smuggling and ensuring maximum security.
