The Two Hundred and Ninety Six (296) beneficiaries of Nigerian Seafarers Development Programme (NSDP) currently studying at Centurion University, India will be given maximum capacity development to acquire quality training and qualify as Seafarers employable globally.
Dr Dayo Mobereola, Director General, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency,(NIMASA) who made this statement while emphasizing the Agency’s commitment to NSDP also described media reports claiming that the Agency plans to withdraw the NSDP pimps from the Centurion University India as false.
According to him, the Agency is only carrying out due diligence on the existing MoU to align the processes in the best interest of the Nigerian scholars.

In his words,” We are not recalling any NSDP beneficiaries from Centurion University. We’re only working to close out all linked gaps in the being Memorandum of Understanding before pacing to the coming stage.
“A situation where the Agency entered into a contractual agreement with Springdale Academy of Maritime Education and Training, SAMET with agreed courses and timelines only to be faced with fresh course duration and an alien programme by the agent, SAMET, unilaterally converting the programme without the concurrence of the Agency as specified by the MoU may not be in the stylish interest of the scholars.
The D.G further posited that “There were issues of non-accreditation of one of institution as at the time of the prosecution of MoU, change of course from Marine engineering to Mechanical engineering without expedient to the Agency, preparing the grounds for fresh times of studies and misgivings for the scholars, raising issues related to backing, and the colorful third parties arrangements without properly informing the Agency”.
Dr Mobereola also noted that the operation of NIMASA is apprehensive of a patronized media crusade of slander against the NIMASA Management stating that it will not discourage NIMASA from doing the right thing.
“We are apprehensive of orchestrated media juggernauts and desires against the Agency reviewing the existing arrangement.
We will not give in to blackmail as the safety and good of our scholars are consummate” he declared.
The Nigerian Seafarers Development Programme was introduced in 2009 to develop capacity by training youthful Nigerians as mariners and ground the gap of dearth of mariners encyclopedically. Nigerian youths are trained in technical courses similar as Marine Engineering, Nautical Sciences and Nautical Surveys amongst others, to insure they qualify as mariners and are exploitable encyclopedically.
