We’ll work with manufacturing sector to combat illegal trade – Customs C.G

In bold move to enhance Nigeria’s economic landscape, the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi has pledged to boost Nigeria’s manufacturing center through trade facilitation

Adeniyi made this submission in his address at the 53rd Anniversary and Annual General Meeting of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria in Lagos,

He said: “We want to commit ourselves to supporting the growth and competitiveness of Nigeria’s manufacturing sector, while also emphasizing the importance of compliance and integrity in our partnerships”.

Speaking further, the CGC disclosed that “We are going to be laying a lot of emphasis on issues related to enforcements of brands and standard and we will not allow counterfeit products in our markets.

“This commitment shows that we understand what manufacturers need and will be here to help the industry to go. We need you to be honest, and we need you to follow the rules. We are ready to work hand in hand with you to make our country a manufacturing giant” he noted.

In a related development, the Customs boss played host to Dr. Olufemi Ogunyemi, Managing Director of the Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority, (NEPZA) at the headquarters of the Federal Operations Unit.

The M.D NEPZA proposed a tripartite committee seek out issues relating to the free trade zones while also imbibing the culture of collaboration.

In his response CGC Adeniyi promised to work with NEPZA to improve special economic zones.

“We already had a Committee in place comprising teams from NEPZA and Customs. The secretariat is provided by the Special Economic Zone Association. So they’ve been meeting and their mandates include issues that require interpretation amd legal provisions” he stated.
