Nigeria loses 500 million Dollars to cybercrime annually – Prof. Chiemeke

The Vice Chancellor University of Delta, Agbor, Prof. Stella Chiemeke has said that Nigeria is among the countries most affected by Cybercrime with an estimated yearly losses of five hundred million dollars.

Prof Chiemeke made the assertion while delivering a paper titled, Cyber security and business survival in Nigeria: Building Customers’ Trust, at this year’s 7th Southern zonal Accountants’ Conference, in Warri.

The Vice Chancellor said the attacks could take numerous forms, including phishing, ransomware, business dispatch concession and many more.

She said it has posed a significant trouble to individualities, businesses, organisations performing in huge fiscal losses.

While saying that only thirty percent of associations in Nigeria are aware of Cyber security, Prof. Chiemeke called on associations across the country to put in place robust cyber security measures to check the unattractive trend.

She said this will help to create customers’ trust and keep similar associations free from nonstop fiscal losses.
