By Ajibola Adedoye

The Nigeria Solidarity Support Fund (NSSF) has launched the 2024 edition of its WeNaija Contest, a creative platform aimed at engaging Nigerian youths in advocacy against drug abuse.

Dr. Fejiro Chinye-Nwoko, the Managing Director/CEO of NSSF, made the announcement in Lagos, stating that the campaign encourages young people to address critical health issues through creative expression.

Now in its fourth edition, the WeNaija campaign, themed “Voice Your Change”, focuses on the rising concern of drug abuse in urban areas, a significant issue affecting many young Nigerians.

Since its inception in 2021, the initiative has impacted thousands of youths, equipping them with tools and skills to advocate for healthcare reforms through mediums such as photography, literature, and video storytelling.

Over 2,000 young Nigerians have participated in health advocacy projects in the past three years, leading to meaningful discussions and solutions for community health challenges.

This year’s contest emphasizes the urgent need to address drug addiction, offering young people a platform to share their stories and propose solutions.

Participants, aged 18 to 35, are invited to submit a 1-2 minute video around the theme “Voice Your Change,” highlighting the causes and impact of drug abuse in their lives or communities, while suggesting innovative solutions.

Winners will receive prizes worth 10 million Naira and recognition at the WeNaija YouthFest in November.

Chinye-Nwoko encouraged youths to register on the NSSF website and upload their videos on Facebook or Instagram, tagging NSSF and using the hashtag #WenaijaVoiceYourChange.

She highlighted the importance of creating open and honest conversations about drug abuse, empowering young people to drive meaningful change in their communities.
