In a strategic leadership transition at the Ports Terminal Multiservices Limited (PTML) Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Comptroller Joe Anani has formally assumed duty as the new Customs Area Controller (CAC), following the redeployment exercise initiated by the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR.
At a brief but symbolic handover ceremony, Comptroller Anani took over from outgoing Controller, Assistant Comptroller General (ACG) Tenny Mankini Daniyan, pledging to sustain and surpass the command’s impressive record in trade facilitation, anti-smuggling operations, and revenue generation.
Anani, who praised ACG Daniyan for his trailblazing performance — particularly during the implementation of the Unified Customs Management System, popularly known as B’Odogwu — vowed to deepen the gains made, particularly in faster cargo clearance and compliance-driven operations.

“I am not here to do it alone,” Anani said in his inaugural address. “Our journey to success must be collective. I call on all customs officers, sister government agencies, private sector stakeholders and the press to support our mission to keep PTML a model of port excellence.”
He underscored the command’s celebrated record of releasing compliant RoRo consignments within two hours and challenged stakeholders to push that benchmark even lower. Stressing the importance of compliance, he said it would remain a central theme of his administration, promising that compliant traders would benefit from expedited services while warning of strict enforcement against non-compliance.
“Non-compliance leads to delays, demand notices, seizures, detentions, and arrests,” he said. “Let’s continue to make PTML the shining example it has always been.”
Comptroller Anani also assured stakeholders of open communication and accessibility, stating his “office is without a door,” and encouraging both physical and virtual engagement to enhance performance and transparency.
On smuggling, he reiterated the Comptroller-General’s policy of zero tolerance, promising rigorous enforcement under his leadership.
Stakeholders present at the ceremony paid glowing tributes to ACG Daniyan, whose tenure they described as transformative. From the successful roll-out of B’Odogwu to fostering seamless collaboration with industry players, Daniyan’s legacy was widely praised.
Otunba Frank Ogunojemite, President of the African Association of Professional Freight Forwarders and Logistics of Nigeria (APFFLON), lauded Daniyan’s professionalism and encouraged him to take his “zeal for excellence” into his new assignment with the NCS management team.
Chief Charles Nwarrienne, Chairman of the Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), PTML Chapter, humorously said Daniyan deserved a “certificate of project completion” for steering the command through the full deployment of B’Odogwu.
The event marked a new chapter for the PTML Command, with Comptroller Anani at the helm — and a renewed pledge to make the command a national benchmark in customs efficiency, stakeholder collaboration, and law enforcement.
