The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has formally received police officers recently called to the Nigerian Bar, charging them to bring their legal expertise to bear in strengthening justice delivery within the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).
The event, which held at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, highlighted the Force’s growing commitment to integrating legal professionalism into policing.

In his remarks, the IGP commended all the officers for their academic achievement, with special recognition given to DSP Idachaba Laraba, who distinguished herself by graduating with First Class Honours from the Nigerian Law School.
Egbetokun described the feat as a source of pride to the Police Force, noting that the officers’ success represents not just a personal milestone, but also a strategic asset for the institution.
The IGP emphasized that all police duties and powers must be exercised within the boundaries of the law.
“You are not just returning as police officers; you are returning as custodians of legal knowledge. Your expertise must be used to defend the Force, protect citizens’ rights, and strengthen justice delivery in Nigeria,” he charged.
The newly called-to-the-bar officers expressed gratitude for the IGP’s support, particularly in ensuring that serving officers are afforded the opportunity to attend law school. They pledged to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and integrity in their new roles.
This development comes on the heels of the recent upgrade of the Force Legal Section into a full Directorate, now headed by an Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG). The move is expected to enhance the Police Force’s legal capacity and ensure more effective handling of litigation, human rights issues, and legal advisory services.
The Inspector-General reaffirmed his commitment to positioning the Nigeria Police as a law-driven, people-centered institution, while encouraging the officers to combine courage with legal precision in service to the nation.
