The Congress of Nigerian Maritime Media Practitioners (CONMMEP) is set to host its much-anticipated 2025 Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Workshop, themed “Empowering Communities Through Strategic Partnerships.” The event will hold on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at the Rock View Hotel in Apapa, Lagos, and is expected to attract top figures across the maritime, corporate, and development sectors.
This year’s workshop is designed to be more than just a gathering—it aims to be a catalyst for sustainable impact, bringing together industry leaders, policymakers, corporate stakeholders, and community advocates to explore actionable strategies for uplifting Nigerian communities through collaboration and innovation.

According to CONMMEP, the workshop aligns with its broader mission of using media advocacy and stakeholder engagement to drive inclusive economic growth and community transformation, especially within the maritime ecosystem.
Speaking ahead of the event, Mr. Lod Onyeji, Project Coordinator of CONMMEP, underscored the importance of synergy among stakeholders in driving meaningful development.
“Empowerment is not achieved in isolation; it requires shared vision, collaboration, and sustained partnerships,” Onyeji stated. “Through this workshop, we hope to inspire actionable ideas that promote sustainable development within the maritime ecosystem and beyond.”
Over the years, the maritime sector has played a critical role in Nigeria’s economic development. However, CONMMEP argues that more can be done to ensure that surrounding communities benefit directly from the industry’s growth—a gap the CSR Workshop aims to address.
The 2025 edition will feature panel discussions, breakout sessions, and case studies showcasing successful partnership models that have delivered real community benefits. Key stakeholders are expected to discuss how corporate organizations, government institutions, and grassroots communities can build resilient partnerships to tackle shared challenges like unemployment, environmental degradation, and infrastructure gaps.
This initiative comes at a time when there is growing recognition of the private sector’s role in social development. By leveraging strategic alliances, CONMMEP believes that the maritime sector can move beyond its traditional economic roles to become a driver of social change in host communities.
With the maritime industry representing a significant portion of Nigeria’s GDP, experts argue that intentional CSR efforts could unlock new opportunities for job creation, education, environmental protection, and infrastructure development.
