The Nigeria Customs Service, Kirikiri Lighter Terminal (KLT) Command has renewed its push for closer collaboration with oil and gas operators, convening a strategic meeting on Tuesday, 18th November 2025, to harmonise procedures, strengthen compliance, and boost operational efficiency across its maritime corridors.
At the session, Comptroller E. J. Edelduok, the Customs Area Controller, highlighted the central role of the oil and gas industry in sustaining national revenue and powering Nigeria’s economy. She stressed that greater accuracy in documentation, strict product accountability, and timely Customs processes remain essential to ensuring seamless inflow, storage, and evacuation of petroleum products.
Comptroller Edelduok urged operators to articulate their challenges candidly, assuring stakeholders that the Command is committed to operational reforms that simplify trade while protecting government interests.

Providing clarity on vessel protocols, the Officer-in-Charge of Boarding, Superintendent of Customs Emmanuel Okoka, reminded participants that all foreign vessels making their first call to Nigeria must berth at a government jetty for statutory Customs clearance before gaining access to private facilities.
He explained that this rule is not only regulatory but vital to national security and revenue assurance.
Discussions during the engagement centred on synchronising vessel arrivals, managing jetty discharge timelines, and improving coordination with storage depots.
Participants praised the Command’s open-door engagement style and recommended the issuance of a formal circular to standardise berthing procedures and eliminate ambiguity.
Comptroller Edelduok closed the session by reaffirming her resolve to sustain transparency, tighten accountability frameworks, and deepen stakeholder partnerships toward guaranteeing safe, compliant, and uninterrupted petroleum product operations within the KLT operational axis.
