The Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) has charged its newly inducted Fellows to demonstrate higher levels of efficiency, professionalism, and ethical conduct as they take on their elevated roles within the profession.
At the 2025 Fellowship Conferment ceremony in Lagos, where 685 members were awarded the prestigious fellowship status, CITN President, Mr. Innocent Ohagwa, described the achievement as a culmination of consistent dedication to integrity and excellence in tax practice.
He noted that the new Fellows, now senior ambassadors of the Institute, must uphold the profession’s ideals, especially as Nigeria prepares for a major shift in its tax administration landscape.

With comprehensive tax reforms scheduled to take full effect by January 2026, Ohagwa emphasized that highly competent and ethical tax professionals will be critical to translating policy changes into meaningful outcomes.
“The fellowship rank comes with a solemn responsibility,” he said. “Our nation is at a pivotal moment, and the implementation of ongoing reforms requires practitioners who can drive efficiency, uphold ethics, and demonstrate sound technical expertise.”
Chairman of the Membership & Professional Conduct Committee, Dr. Yemi Sanni, commended the conferees for meeting the Council’s rigorous standards, stressing that fellowship within CITN is earned through years of leadership, learning, and unwavering dedication to the Institute’s goals. He encouraged the new Fellows to continue upholding the values of professionalism, accountability, and service.
Similarly, CITN Registrar/Chief Executive, Mrs. Afolake Oso, described the fellowship status as the Institute’s highest professional honour, urging recipients to deepen their commitment to mentorship, ethical practice, and reforms that promote transparency and compliance within the nation’s tax ecosystem.
Special Guest of Honour, Mr. Tunde Adaramaja, called on the tax professionals to embrace digitalisation and artificial intelligence to enhance tax administration. According to him, AI boosts productivity, reduces risks, cuts costs, and drives timely, efficient service delivery.
“With the world rapidly evolving, embracing technology is no longer optional,” Adaramaja said. “Digitalisation creates room for better outcomes in taxation, and it is essential for the future of Nigeria’s tax system.”
He encouraged the new Fellows to keep expanding their knowledge base and stay aligned with global innovations to remain relevant in a transforming tax environment.
