The Oyo/Osun Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has ushered in a new phase of administration following a smooth transfer of leadership from Comptroller Gambo Iyere Aliyu to Deputy Comptroller of Customs, Moses Wale Adewole, who now serves as Acting Customs Area Controller.
The transition, which took place during a formal handing-over ceremony, followed the redeployment of Comptroller Aliyu to the Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone A, Lagos. The change was marked by expressions of continuity, confidence, and renewed commitment to the Service’s core mandate.
In his acceptance remarks, Deputy Comptroller Adewole conveyed gratitude to the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, and the Management of the Service for entrusting him with the responsibility. He emphasized that the new role represents a higher level of service and responsibility, pledging to sustain professionalism, integrity, discipline, and effective teamwork across the Command.

Adewole acknowledged the solid foundation laid by his predecessor, commending Comptroller Aliyu for strengthening revenue generation, enhancing anti-smuggling efforts, and fostering productive relationships with stakeholders. He assured officers, stakeholders, and partners that his leadership would build on these achievements while pursuing improved operational efficiency and performance.
The Acting Controller identified key focus areas of his administration, including transparent and improved revenue collection, intensified anti-smuggling operations through inter-agency collaboration, capacity development and welfare of personnel, improved discipline and work ethics, and sustained engagement with traditional rulers, the business community, and other stakeholders in Oyo and Osun States.
Reflecting on his tenure, Comptroller Gambo Iyere Aliyu described his period in office as rewarding, citing strong cooperation with state governments, effective partnerships with security agencies, and consistent engagement with traditional institutions. He noted that these efforts contributed significantly to the Command’s operational successes.
Comptroller Aliyu also highlighted notable improvements in revenue performance, attributing them to increased compliance, structured interactions with excise factories, and the adoption of the B’odogwu Unified Customs Management System. He praised officers and men of the Command for their dedication, which translated into commendable anti-smuggling achievements and protection of the national economy.
In his parting words, the outgoing Controller encouraged his successor to sustain capacity-building programmes, strengthen ties with border communities, and ensure the completion of the Command’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiative—the proposed Solar-Powered Healthcare Centre in Iragbiji.
The ceremony concluded on a note of goodwill, unity, and shared resolve to uphold service excellence, institutional continuity, and the broader vision of the Nigeria Customs Service.
