The Network of Nigerian Maritime Journalists (NNMJ) has praised the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, for his transformational leadership as he marks his birthday.
In a statement issued on Monday, 19 January 2026, and signed by the Chairman of the Network, Elder Dele Aderibigbe, the maritime journalists described the Customs boss as a reform-driven administrator whose tenure has reshaped the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).
Aderibigbe noted that Adeniyi assumed leadership at a critical moment when the Service required firm direction and renewed credibility. According to him, the CGC’s steady leadership has not only stabilised the NCS but also elevated its standing on the global stage, culminating in Nigeria’s enhanced profile within the World Customs Organisation (WCO), where Adeniyi serves as Chairman.
The NNMJ Chairman highlighted the Comptroller-General’s reputation as a tireless worker, pointing to a series of bold and far-reaching reforms that have repositioned the Service. He singled out B’odogwu, an indigenous operational initiative, as a landmark intervention that has significantly improved efficiency and boosted revenue generation for the Federal Government.
Aderibigbe further recalled President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commendation of the Customs boss, noting that CGC Adeniyi’s leadership has strengthened community relations, ensured consistent surpassing of revenue targets, deepened trade partnerships with countries and multilateral institutions, and enhanced security across Nigeria’s borders. These achievements, the President observed, underscore the importance of reform-oriented leadership in building economic resilience and safeguarding national frontiers.
The Network concluded by offering prayers for continued divine strength, wisdom, and good health for CGC Adeniyi as he continues to steer the affairs of the Nigeria Customs Service.
