The Ogun State Police Command has rolled out a renewed, intelligence-driven operation targeting traffic violations linked to criminal activities, with a focus on illegal number plates, abuse of dealer (temporary) plates, and the unauthorised use of sirens and amber lights across the state.
According to the Command, recent security assessments reveal that vehicles with fake, altered, concealed, or improperly fixed plates, as well as those unlawfully operating with dealer plates, are frequently used to perpetrate crimes. The ongoing operation is therefore designed to close these gaps by identifying such vehicles, apprehending offenders, and prosecuting them in line with existing laws, while simultaneously improving road safety and public confidence.
To ensure accountability and professionalism, the enforcement exercise is being monitored by specialised units including the Motor Traffic Department, Monitoring Unit, and the X-Squad. Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers are also providing direct supervision within their respective jurisdictions to ensure that all actions conform strictly to approved operational standards and respect citizens’ rights.

The Commissioner of Police has urged residents to support the initiative by adhering to traffic regulations, avoiding unverified vehicles, and utilising recognised motor parks and authorised pick-up points. The Command emphasised that the exercise is not punitive but preventive—aimed at reducing crime, preserving public order, and safeguarding lives.
Members of the public are encouraged to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements or security concerns through the Ogun State Police Command emergency lines, as collective cooperation remains vital to sustaining peace and security in the state.
