Road to Progress: Ikorodu (Sabo)–Itokin Route Reopens After Major Rehabilitation

A major step forward in infrastructure development has just been completed in Ikorodu North LCDA as the administration of Mayor Ameen Olawale Ibrahim Apanisile proudly announces the successful rehabilitation of the Ikorodu (Sabo)–Itokin Road — a once-deplorable artery now reborn into a safer, smoother, and more reliable route for thousands of daily users.

The vital road, long considered a lifeline for commuters, traders, and transporters, has undergone a comprehensive overhaul. The project included extensive surface works, drainage upgrades, and the restoration of damaged sections, all aimed at solving the persistent transportation challenges faced by residents.

“This is more than just a road project,” Mayor Apanisile said during the official commissioning.

“The rehabilitation of Ikorodu (Sabo)–Itokin Road is a testament to our dedication to improving the daily lives of our people. Our administration will continue to take bold steps to ensure safer roads, stronger communities, and a brighter future for all.”

The road, previously notorious for potholes, flooding, and frequent traffic snarls, now offers a seamless driving experience and promises reduced vehicle wear-and-tear, enhanced pedestrian safety, and shorter travel times — all of which are expected to boost local commerce and ease movement for small businesses and marketgoers.

This project is one of many under Mayor Apanisile’s “New Deal Agenda,” a forward-looking development blueprint focused on people-first governance, infrastructure renewal, and economic empowerment.

By rehabilitating key transportation links like the Sabo–Itokin corridor, the administration aims to unlock greater opportunities for residents and promote sustainable urban development across Ikorodu North LCDA.

Local business owners, transport union members, and commuters have praised the initiative, calling it long overdue and deeply impactful.

“This road used to be a nightmare, especially during the rainy season,” said Mrs. Kafayat Balogun, a local trader. “Now, it’s like we’ve entered a new era — faster transport, no more flooded walkways, and customers can reach us easily.”

With this milestone, Ikorodu North LCDA is reaffirming its place as a model of grassroots transformation. Mayor Apanisile’s administration has promised that more rehabilitation and infrastructure projects are in the pipeline, all geared toward building a more connected, prosperous, and liveable environment for all.

As the newly restored Ikorodu (Sabo)–Itokin Road opens fully to the public, one thing is clear: Ikorodu is on the move — and the future is paved with progress.
