Isiu Grammar School’s Badejo Raphael Shines as Ikorodu North Holds 2025 Spelling Bee Competition

Ikorodu North Local Council Development Area (LCDA) reaffirmed its strong commitment to education and youth development as it hosted the much-anticipated 2025 Spelling Bee Competition on Thursday, October 2nd, 2025. The intellectually charged event brought together pupils and students from 19 schools across the LCDA, who showcased not only their spelling skills but also their resilience, confidence, and competitive spirit.

The competition was formally declared open by the Deputy Mayor, Hon. Mathew Aliu Adesanya, representing the Executive Chairman, Mayor Ameen Olawale Ibrahim Apanisile. He was joined by the Council Leader, Hon. Bose Benson, councillors, and the Chief of Staff, Mr. Mojeed Mayowa.

In her welcome address, the Acting Head of Department for Education, Miss Orekoya Oluwatosin, applauded the teachers and pupils for their hard work, while the Quiz Master, Mr. Okuneye Okuwaseun, alongside a panel of judges, ensured the competition ran smoothly and fairly.

After several intense rounds, the winners emerged in both the primary and secondary school categories:

Primary School Category

  • 1st Place: Joseph Godspower – Agodo Alara Primary School
  • 2nd Place: Emmanuel Praise – African Bethel Primary School, Maya
  • 3rd Place: Nwafor Chidalu – Farm Settlement Community Primary School, Odogunyan

Secondary School Category

  • 1st Place: Badejo Raphael (JSS 3) – Isiu Junior Grammar School, Isiu
  • 2nd Place: Kilani Aminat – Agbede Senior Grammar School, Agbede
  • 3rd Place: Omotayo Aminat – Ikorodu Senior High School, Agbala

In a show of encouragement, Mayor Ameen Apanisile, before leaving for another official assignment, ensured that every participant received notebooks as a token of recognition, highlighting his administration’s passion for education and inclusivity.

Speaking through his representative, the Mayor congratulated the winners and urged all participants to remain steadfast in their academic pursuits. He further assured parents, teachers, and the education community that his administration would continue to create platforms that nurture excellence, build confidence, and prepare students for future opportunities.

The winning students will now advance to represent Ikorodu North LCDA at the State level of the prestigious competition, carrying the hopes and pride of their community.
