The Executive Chairman of Somolu Local Government, Hon. Lateef Ashimi, has joined the global community in celebrating educators on the occasion of World Teachers’ Day 2025, describing teachers as “the voice, shield, and pillar of the teaching profession.”

In his goodwill message, Hon. Ashimi praised teachers for their unwavering dedication and profound impact on national development, emphasizing that no nation can rise above the quality of its teachers.

“Teachers are undeniably the foundation of every great society. Your wisdom, patience, and consistent sacrifice shape young minds and nurture the leaders of tomorrow. Here in Somolu, we deeply appreciate your selfless service and the critical, unquantifiable role you play in nation-building,” he said.

The Chairman also commended the National Union of Teachers (NUT) for its steadfast commitment to promoting quality education and safeguarding teachers’ welfare, describing it as “a powerful force for progress, unity, and reform.”

Hon. Ashimi reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting education at the grassroots, citing the success of the Y2025 Phase I & II Summer Coaching Programmes as a testament to Somolu’s dedication to academic excellence and youth empowerment.

“By harnessing the strength of the NUT, we can foster greater unity, peace, and progress—not only in our schools but across the larger society,” he added.

He called for renewed national commitment to the teaching profession, urging all stakeholders to ensure that Nigerian teachers are adequately honoured and motivated.

“As we celebrate our teachers today, let us work together to build a Nigeria where education flourishes and teachers are consistently recognized as the nation’s true heroes,” Hon. Ashimi said.

He concluded with heartfelt appreciation to all teachers in Somolu, Lagos State, and across the country:

“To every teacher who continues to inspire, shape, and build lives—you are the light of our nation. Happy Teachers’ Day!”
